Some television shows are doomed to failure right out of the gate and the ABC sitcom Work It was no exception.
The show centered on two unemployed men who decided to dress up like women to better their chances of getting hired during hard economic times.
After two lackluster weeks it was clear that viewers weren’t interested in the premise. The cross-dressing comedy did, however, manage to pick up a few serious detractors during its brief stint, including GLAAD and the Human Rights Campaign.
The organizations took out an ad in the Hollywood trade magazine Variety, claiming that Work It could have a negative impact on the transgender community. They needn’t have worried. It turns out nobody tuned in, and the ABC network was quick to pull the plug.
In the short term, the Tuesday night time slot will carry reruns of Last Man Standing. It is assumed that Cougar Town will pick up the empty berth midseason.
