It isn’t often that a guest of The View causes a mass exodus of co-hosts from the set, but it did happen today thanks to Bill O’Reilly. Tempers flared over the subject of the proposed mosque that was to be built near the site of the World Trade Center.
O’Reilly argued that 70 percent of Americans are against the Muslim building project. Joy Behar, the feisty redhead, wasn’t buying it and wanted to see that poll.
In one condescending exchange, O’Reilly dismissed the point that Behar was making by interjecting: “Listen to me because you’ll learn.”
In desperation Joy jumped to her feet, refusing to sit a moment longer and continue to breathe the same air as the controversial commentator. Whoopi Goldberg sprang up too — and off they stormed.
Barbara Walters, in an effort to smooth it all away, calmly apologized for the incident: “You have just seen what should not happen … we should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking off stage. I love my colleagues, but that should not have happened.”
The beleaguered duo eventually returned to the set but Behar stayed as far away from Bill as was humanly possible on the circular couch.
