Mad Men actress January Jones caused a multiple vehicle crash at 9:00 p.m. last night and then fled the scene. She was reportedly on her way home from enjoying some drinks and watching the Lakers/Celtics game on television with a group of friends at The London West Hollywood Hotel, when she sideswiped two parked cars with her Range Rover.

She quickly phoned Food Network star Bobby Flay, one of the friends she had just left, to come to her rescue. He traveled to the accident scene and reportedly counseled her to leave. She followed his instructions and fled on foot, after giving her license number to a witness, and telling the women, “I can’t deal with this commotion.”

The actress walked the short distance to her home, and reappeared at the accident scene 45 minutes later in a different set of clothing and was chewing gum.

The witness who had the brief face to face conversation with the actress, was surprised when police officers on the scene failed to administer a field sobriety test, especially in light of the fact that she mentioned to the cops that she smelled alcohol on the breath of the actress. Officers told her there is no way you can pin a drinking and driving rap on someone who has left the scene and returned later.

January reportedly told officers that the crash occurred because the paparazzi was following her, though none of the witnesses saw any evidence of anyone taking photos at the scene until well after the police arrived.

Police bought into Jones’ version of events, and LAPD Officer April Harding said: “It wasn’t a hit and run. She wasn’t under the influence and she wasn’t arrested. She was being followed by paparazzi and as she was trying to elude them, she struck two cars. She wasn’t under the influence of any drugs. No crime was committed and she wasn’t arrested.”

Case closed…apparently. Celebrity justice?
