Barbara Walters announced this morning on The View that she will be undergoing heart surgery later this week for the replacement of a faulty heart value.

Although the 80-year-old talk show host hasn’t notice any specific symptoms, a recent echocardiogram revealed that one of her heart valves is getting “tighter and smaller”.

Walters has known about the condition for many months but decided to wait until she got closer to the procedure before revealing the news. She timed the surgery for now because the show goes on hiatus for six weeks during the summer. Barbara expects to come “roaring back” in September when The View resumes daily filming.
