Vancouver police have confirmed the body found in Stanley Park around noon on Thursday is that of missing “Growing Pains” actor Andrew Koenig, who was reported missing on February 18.

Andrew’s father Walter Koenig made a tearful appearance at a press conference Thursday evening to confirm that the body discovered in a densely wooded area was his son. “My son took his own life,” Koenig said, wife Judy at his side.

Walter announced at a press conference on Wednesday that Andrew, who is best known for his role as Richard ‘Boner’ Stabone on the 80’s sitcom Growing Pains, suffered from depression.

The Koenigs pleaded with others who might have depressed family members to recognize the signs.

Walter Koenig appealed to those who might be in emotional pain: “If you can learn anything from this, it’s that there are people out there who really care, and you may not think so, and ultimately it may not be enough, but … before you make that final decision, check it out again, talk to somebody.”

Koenig’s body was discovered off a trail in a wooded area, and was “unseen from the path,” according to a police spokeswoman. Authorities would not release details on the cause of death, but did say there is no evidence of foul play.
