Lynette Squeaky Fromme, the woman who pulled a gun on President Gerald Ford, was released on parole from the Federal Medical Center at Carswell, Texas on Friday morning August 14, after serving 34 years behind bars.

She was convicted of attempted assassination for pointing a .45 colt semi-automatic pistol at the 38th President of the United States in Sacramento's Capitol Park on September 5, 1975.

She was stopped by secret service agents who later determined that the gun she was carrying had a full ammunition clip, though she hadn't chambered a round.  Dressed in a long flowing red robe garment, she was immediately handcuffed by members of the Presidential secret service detail - see photo above.

Fromme was sentenced to life in prison, but became eligible for parole after 30 years, under old sentencing guidelines.

Fromme was a known follower and 'family member' of convicted murderer Charles Manson, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of actress Sharon Tate and her party guests.  Fromme was never implicated in the murders.
