George Michael was arrested in a public bathhouse in London on Friday night, September 19, for possession of cocaine and marijuana. The famed musician was detained at a local police station and later released. The former frontman for the duo Wham! later struck out on a highly successful solo career.
Apparently he was gifted with a huge dose of celebrity justice in this particular incident. After being detained for questioning by police, he was given a caution and released.
No stranger to being on the wrong side of the law, the singer was previously arrested in 1998 for a lewd act in a Beverly Hills bathroom for which he received a community service sentence. He was again arrested in October 2006 for marijuana. In May 2007 he was found slumped over the wheel of his car in London. He pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to a 2 year driving suspension.
The two time Grammy winner has sold over 100 million records worldwide and is said to be Britain’s 10th richest musician.
The singer issued a statement: “I want to apologize to my fans for screwing up again and to promise them that I’ll sort myself out.”
