The latest assault on Hillary Clinton by guest speaker Fr. Michael Pfleger at Barack Obama‘s Chicago church was apparently the last straw. Obama has decided to leave Trinity United Church of Christ because he no longer wants to be tied to remarks made from that pulpit. He phoned his Democratic opponent to apologize for the remarks and then drafted his resignation letter to Trinity.

He has opted to try to distance himself by completely severing ties. That is not likely to end the controversy. The Republican party will undoubtedly raise questions about his 20 year association with a church that was known for it’s controversial sermons by Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retired minister who married the Obama’s, baptized their children and the man they considered a spiritual adviser until recently.
