YouTube’s latest sensation, Greyson Michael Chance, got the opportunity to perform his rendition of Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday.

The 12-year-old told DeGeneres that he learned of her interest in having him on the show when his mom sent him a text message while he was sitting in math class that said “Call me ASAP.”

Greyson said girls are paying more attention to him since his new found fame. “Let’s just say I’ve gotten a couple of numbers and made some new friends,” he told DeGeneres.

The 6th grader told Ellen that Lady Gaga is his inspiration. “I love how she’s so different, and she takes her individuality and her amazing talent and makes great songs that are catchy and that make you want to dance and maybe throw out some Ellen moves you have. I just love her individuality, the way she can harness that with her talent.”

Ellen surprised Greyson with a call from Gaga, who gave him some advice. “Keep following your dreams and work really hard and stay away from girls and be focused,” she told him.

Greyson, who said he’s never had vocal training, also writes music. He posted two of his original songs, “Stars” and “Broken Hearted” on YouTube.
