THE New York Times has a wonderful layout of the 2008 Spring Collection – hot off the presses. See complete photo and video spread of the top designer collections at the bottom of this page.
While most of these designer label fashions probably won’t end up in the average closet, it is our burning need to see what the rich, famous and trendy will be sporting in the coming months. No worries though – the not so spendy clothiers will be selling knock offs. Now those we can afford!
The 2008 Spring Collections in New York and Europe include: bold floral prints, intense color, jackets with peaked or rounded shoulders, transparency, jumpsuits and smock dresses with casual blazers.
With respect to the transparency, many fashion directors have been expressing their distaste at “too many nipples”. Not so this year. “Veiling might be a better word than transparency,” said Michael Fink, the fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue, noting that the effect was, for the most part, just that — an illusion of bareness. “Very little was vulgar,” he said.
Word on the street is that shoes will start upstaging bags with more emphasis on the heels. Expect to see some extreme statements on the feet of our favorite Hollywood stars – think reality show actress Victoria Beckham. And lingerie is still trendy because, quite frankly, sex always seems to work – think Hollywood honey Pamela Anderson.
