Shawn Johnson, U.S. Women’s Gymnastics Olympian, was favored to win a gold medal in the All-Around Final on Friday but ended up winning silver. Her U.S. teammate Nastia Liukin took the gold. Members of the U.S. team will compete in the individual events in the days to come. The spunky teenager has the talent to be a driving force in Beijing. She’s a long way from the cornfields of Iowa and is still seeking gold.

The U.S. Women’s team won silver after teammate Alicia Sacramone had a bad couple of falls during team competition. She apologized to her team members and took the full burden of the loss on her shoulders, though they have rallied around their team leader.

The 16 year old from Iowa is a powerhouse who won the All-Around title in the 2007 U.S. Nationals, beating out teammate Nastia Liukin. No so in Beijing, where Liukin was the victor. Her father won an Olympic gold in men’s gymnastics 20 years ago when he was on the Russian team.
