Trace Adkins won ACM Single of the Year for You’re Going To Miss This and also performed a song Til The Last Shot’s Fired with the West Point Glee Club at the 44th Annual Academy of Country Music awards on Sunday night. They received a standing ovation for the war song that is being used to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

The group had heard the new song on his album and approached the musician for his help in advancing their cause. He practiced a few hours with them and said the experience was extremely gratifying.

Of his single of the year win, Adkins related in his acceptance speech that he recorded the song as a bonus track because it had special meaning to him at the time his oldest daughter got married. It was never intended to be a single and the fact that he was talked into releasing it as such and its ultimate popularity still amazes him. He said, “Glad I’m an idiot.”
