President Barack Obama greeted Saudi King Abdullah with a full bow from the waist late last week. The move has some up in arm in what they have described as a violation of protocol, and not worthy of the office he holds. Others suggest that he was grovelling to an Arab monarch.
American etiquette expert Gloria Starr weighed in on the G20 meet and greet, “I think it is a sign of respect and in no way diminishes the ranking of the President or indicates the greater strength of the one being bowed to. I applaud the President for showing this courtesy.”
