Cooling her heel for a short while after learning that her adoption bid for 3 year old Mercy James was shot down by a judge in Malawi, Madonna has decided on a new strategy and has emailed Malawi’s newspaper Nation with her hopes for the child:
“I want to provide Mercy with a home, a loving family environment and the best education and health care possible. And it’s my hope that she, like David, will one day return to Malawi and help the people of their country.
Though I have been advised that I cannot publicly discuss the pending appeal regarding my desire to adopt Mercy, I do want to say how much I appreciate the level of support that I have received from the people of Malawi and my friends around the world.”
Time will tell if Madonna’s appeal will resolve the current impasse. The new residency requirement of 18-24 months seems to be a very solid roadblock. We wouldn’t put it past the mega star to begin looking for a temporary home in David and Mercy’s native land. Madge isn’t in the habit of taking no for an answer and we can’t see her just walking away.
Last week Madonna’s ex-husband Guy Ritchie weighed in on the subject. Check out that story here.
