Comedian Robert Schimmel was arrested in his Los Angeles home Saturday morning for domestic violence.
The 59-year-old, who has appeared on The Howard Stern Show, Conan O’Brien and HBO, was charged with beating up his wife Melissa Schimmel when police were called to the home around 12:30 a.m.
There were observable injuries on Melissa and Schimmel was arrested and taken to the Los Angeles County jail where he was being held on $50,000 bail.
The comedian, known for his X-rated and controversial humor, married Melissa — a friend of his daughter’s and half his age, after divorcing his first wife Vicki three times.
Schimmel has battled Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he chronicles in his book “Cancer on $5 a Day.” His cancer is currently in remission.
