The 134th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland took place on Saturday, May 16, 2009. The winner, with a time of 1:55:08, was Rachel Alexandra. She was the first filly to win the race since 1924 and the first to win from the number 13 post. The horse was ridden from the outside position by jockey Calvin Borel.

Coming in second was Mine That Bird, winner of the Kentucky Derby on May 2, 2009. That winning horse was also ridden by Calvin Borel – see photos and video here. Musket Man finished third.

Rachel Alexandra jumped out to an early lead and held off a late charge by Mine That Bird, winning $660,000. Borel may get a shot at his own Triple Crown if Rachel Alexandra runs in the Belmont Stakes in three weeks.

Check out the race on video below and Borel in the winners circle afterward.
