At 3 p.m. yesterday Atlanta based rapper Dolla aka Roderick Anthony Burton II was shot and killed outside of the Los Angeles Beverly Center, a popular mall in Beverly Hills. A 20 year old African American who goes by the name Aubery Berry was taken into custody on suspicion of murdering Dolla, who was shot in the head.
Dolla, 21, was gunned down while waiting in the valet area with fellow rappers D.J. Shabbazz and Jive Recording artist Scrapp DeLeon. According to police, Dolla was involved in some kind of altercation with a man and woman prior to the shooting, and they are considered possible accomplices to the crime.
The LAPD spotted Berry in the ticketing area of LAX and he matched the description given by witnesses. When approached by police, the suspect raised his hands and informed the officer that he knew why they were there. Police removed a 9 millimeter handgun from Berry’s waistband before taking him into custody.
Dolla is best known for his song Feelin’ Myself, featured in the 2006 movie Step Up. According to Dolla’s publicist, the musician had just arrived in town to work on his album Another Day, Another Dolla, which was slated for release on Akon’s Konvict Muzik label.
