Newly released NFL wide receiver Hank Baskett was headed for Indianapolis on Thursday morning, where he will sign a one-year contract to play for the Colts.

Baskett was dumped from the Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster on Monday to make room for QB Michael Vick. The four year veteran was immediately on the radar screen of the Colts, who have a hole at the receiver position after Anthony Gonzalez suffered an injury on Sunday during their 14-12 victory over Jacksonville. Gonzalez will be out for up to eight weeks because of sprained ligaments in his right knee.

It is unlikely that Baskett will learn the system in the next few days and be ready in time for Monday night’s contest against Miami, but once acclimated he could provide Peyton Manning with another valuable go-to-guy at the receiver position and help Reggie Wayne carry the load. Three-time MVP Manning told reporters that they hope to get Baskett up to speed as soon as possible.

Hank married Kendra Wilkinson, former Playboy model and girlfriend to Hugh Hefner, in a June 2009 wedding. They are expecting their first child, a son, at the end of the year. Of the new and sudden move, Kendra said, “this is a great opportunity for Hank to be playing for the Colts. Peyton Manning is one of the best–if not the best–quarterback in the league. I’m excited and so proud of Hank for staying strong and positive.”
