Janet Jackson recently sat down for an ABC interview at her Malibu beach home. The segment, In the Spotlight With Robin Roberts, aired Wednesday night and detailed her personal recollections in the hours, day and weeks following the death of Michael Jackson.
The sister closest to the King of Pop tells Robin that she has found a new strength and focus by getting back to the recording studio. She has a new two-disc greatest hits collection Number Ones that contains the recent release Make Me, a tribute to her brother’s hit Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough.
On the subject of Dr. Conrad Murray, she said, “He was the one administering the drug, I feel he was responsible for Michael’s death. I don’t feel he should be practicing, so this could happen to someone else.”
Janet said that she and the entire family knew of his drug use and they tried an intervention, but they were unsuccessful. She said, “You can lead them to water, but you can’t force them to drink. It’s up to them to take control.”
Jackson told Roberts that she and her boyfriend Jermaine Dupri are no longer together. Their seven year relationship ended shortly after the death of her brother.
Janet believes that she has come out of this family tragedy with a new mental toughness, the same strength that her mother Katherine Jackson has always exhibited. She remarked that stories speculating about Michael’s death have been hurtful, but she is learning how to deal with them.
