Miss Gibraltar Kaiane Aldorino was crowned the new Miss World 2009 on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa. The 22-year-old human resources clerk at St. Bernard’s Hospital is from the British territory of Gibraltar, off the coast of southern Spain.
The reigning Miss World 2008, Russian Ksenia Sukhinova crowned the new winner. First runner-up was Miss Mexico Perla Beltran. Second runner-up was Miss South Africa Tatum Keshwar.
Katrina Hodge, known as Combat Barbie, was disappointed that she didn’t make it into the finals. She was drafted just one month ago to step in for Miss England 2009 Rachel Christie, who gave up her title following a bar brawl arrest.
In a press conference following the two hour pageant, the newly crowned Miss World 2009 said she “had no words” to describe her feelings but was “really happy.”
