The Top 3 American Idol contestants sang two songs on Tuesday night’s FOX reality show. Their first performances were songs they chose and their final performance selections of the evening where picked by the judges.
Casey James started out the evening with “OK, It’s Alright With Me”. It didn’t work for Randy and Ellen was disappointed that he “hadn’t brought it”. Kara thought he made a mistake by not picking an established song. Cowell said, “You’re lucky you have two songs. That was a dud song choice.”
His second performance was “Daughters”, chosen for him by Randy and Kara. Jackson said, “This fits you like a glove.” Ellen remarked, “I thought that was beautiful for you.” Kara acknowledged, “This showed a more artistic side of you.” Simon relented too: “Much better song choice. A bit of a lazy arrangement, but you sounded very good.”
Crystal Bowersox sang “Come To My Window”. Randy “didn’t love it.” Ellen thought it was a good song choice. Kara wasn’t thrilled but said it was “still a good vocal” but finished by saying, “I hope you have a moment.” Simon pumped her up by remarking, “You haven’t compromised yourself as an artist.”
Ellen chose “Maybe I’m Amazed” for Crystal’s second performance. Randy liked it and said, “Great song, great vocal. America, we’ve got someone else in it to win it.” Simon said, “You’ve got soul. That was terrific.”
Lee DeWyze picked “Simple Man” and Simon chose “Hallelujah” for the former paint salesman. The judges nearly crowned him the next American Idol on the spot following his two strong performances. We were so impressed that we devoted a separate post to showcase what turned out to be HIS night.

So who is going to be eliminated tonight? It seems like a no-brainer that Casey will reach the end of the line. Expect to see a showdown next week between Lee and Crystal…something we’ve been saying for a while now.
