Former Cheers star Ted Danson, 63, will become a cast regular on the popular television series CSI in the fall, filling the supervisor slot left by the departure of Laurence Fishburne.
There is no grass growing under the feet of this veteran actor. He will remain a series regular on HBO’s Bored to Death, and will appear on the big screen with Drew Barrymore in January 2012 in the romantic drama Everybody Loves Whales.
He and his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen, close personal friends of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton, have a blended family of children from their previous marriages.
Few people realize that Danson had an affair with Whoopi Goldberg, which led to his divorce from his second wife, Casey Coates, in 1993. It cost Danson $30 million of his 1982-1993 Cheers earnings, one of Hollywood’s costliest divorces at that time.
The actor will debut on the Season 12 premiere of CSI on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.
