Wheelchair mermaid copycat act gets Bette all twirled up on Twitter …

During a recent show, Lady Gaga performed while dressed as a mermaid in a wheelchair. Several groups that promote fair treatment of people with disabilities were offended, as was veteran songstress Bette Midler.

As it turns out, Midler wasn’t outraged by the theme of the performance, she was furious because she claims it is her act and Lady G stole it.

The music legend took to Twitter to share her anger: “I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people — and many of them are still alive.”

She continued, “Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar, it’s because it is! You can see it on YouTube 24/7, with ME performing it …

I’ve been doing singing mermaid in a wheelchair since 1980. You can keep the meat dress and the firecracker t*ts — mermaid’s mine.”

Unlike the previous performances by Bette, Gaga’s fans threw eggs as an expression of outrage as she crooned from the wheelchair. This would seem to suggest that Lady G’s fans come prepared to show displeasure … just in case.

After the dust settled, it seems Midler just wants to call a truce: ” @ladygaga let’s drink this over at the Emmys in September. Fabulous mermaids can coexist!”
