Documentary ‘Bikes Over Baghdad’ by film creator Christian Schauf, relives some of the time spent overseas providing entertainment for our troops.

Schauf’s band Catchpenny was asked to do one tour (15 performances) and when they were finished they were asked to return every other month. They began providing other forms of entertainment, other bands, running 5K race tours and Bikes Over Baghdad.

Christian said they were taking pictures and videos for posterity and for the riders and their sponsors. Schauf told Bitten and Bound: “After several trips, we realized we had a very unique opportunity to tell this story and had almost all of the footage we needed to do so. The last trip, we tried to fill some holes, get scenic shots and interview more people.”

In total Catchpenny played 150 shows overseas and also did Bikes Over Baghdad tour 6 times. Because the draw down has almost all the troops out of the country, Schauf and his crew are no-longer providing entertainment in Iraq.

After six months of assembling and editing, the documentary ‘Bikes Over Baghdad’ was born. The finished product is a film that demonstrates the power of entertainment as a way to lift the spirits of servicemen.

The documentary screening will be on June 14, 2012 at ICON Theatre at West End in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. An after-party will be held at Sopranos Kitchen just across the street.

We’ll be giving away two screening tickets to see ‘Bikes Over Baghdad’ – check out Bitten and Bound‘s Facebook page for details.

This August Catchpenny will be performing in Greenland, El Salvador, Honduras and the Bahamas. Follow Schauf on Twitter.
