Veteran crooner Neil Diamond took a red-eye flight with his wife to Boston from Los Angeles early yesterday in order to arrive in time to sing ‘Sweet Caroline’ at Fenway Park on the day after the city was locked down during a police manhunt.
The singer told the crowd, “What an honor it is to be here today. I bring love from the whole country.”
After his performance Diamond posed with a group of high-profile individuals who captured Boston bombing terrorist Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on Friday night as the nation was transfixed while watching events unfold on live television.
The singer posted a photo along with this tweet, “In the company of heroes. #oneboston” Among those posing with ND was FBI Special Agent in Charge Richard DesLauriers, who has orchestrated the Boston Marathon bombing investigation.
Diamond told a reporter, “I was humbled and honored to be in Boston and to be able to personally thank and express my gratitude to the first responders and law enforcement officers.”
The iconic song ‘Sweet Caroline’ has been a Red Sox anthem played at the ballpark during every home game since 1997.
