Billy Currington has been indicted by a Georgia grand jury at the Chatham County courthouse on felony charges for elder abuse and making terrorist threats.

The country singer reportedly became so irate when riverboat tour captain Charles Harvey Ferrelle, 70, got too close to his dock that he jumped into his own boat and gave chase while screaming at the older gentleman.

Ferrelle told police he was cruising past Currington’s home on Tybee Creek on April 15 when his passengers alerted him that someone on the property was screaming at them.

The boat captain claims his craft was floating with the current far from the docks and he throttled up and moved even farther away when he saw the angry man, whom he later identified as Currington. Later in the day, the crooner chased him down in his own boat while cursing and threatening the old guy.

The police report included this statement from Charlie, “If I hadn’t gotten into my slip fast enough, I believe he would have run me over.”

A grand jury issued a warrant for Billy’s arrest and he turned himself in Thursday afternoon. The singer was freed several hours later after posting a $27,700 bond. Under Georgia law each charge is a felony punishable by one to five years in prison.

Last week the entertainer tweeted, “Harassing artists at their home by boat should be illegal. that’s all i know.”

He took to Twitter again this week to add, “I can’t comment on this situation as this is an ongoing legal matter. It means a lot to me to have your support during this time.”
