The parents of former child actress Amanda Bynes will try to convince a judge to grant them control over the financial and personal affairs of their troubled daughter, who was placed on an involuntary psychiatric 5150 hold earlier this week.
In an eleventh hour decision, the 72 hour hold was extended by two weeks Thursday night. A judge made an emergency visit to the hospital to discuss the case with the medical professionals who have been evaluating Bynes and ruled on the spot.
Prior to the late night decision, estranged parents Rick and Lynn Bynes scrambled to filed documents at the Ventura County Superior Courthouse in Oxnard, requesting that they be named temporary conservators of their daughters affairs.
The couple hired famed attorney’s Tamar Arminak and Patrick Reider to help them navigate the legal process. Because of the urgent nature of the problem, a Ventura County judge has agreed to hear the case on Friday, July 26.
A family source said, “Amanda’s parents are afraid their daughter will die if the conservatorship isn’t granted.” Based on everything that is happened over the past week, Amanda’s family has every reason to be concerned.
A strange twist to the saga is the fact that Britney Spears’ former manager, Sam Lutfi, befriended Amanda and bought her a plane ticket to return to L.A. from New York City.
Lutfi and Amanda became pals a few months back. suggesting that Lutfi might be trying to exert the same hold on her as he did with Spears. Jamie Spears, Brit’s father, was forced to have a judge issue a restraining order that prevented Lutfi from having any personal contact with Britney. The Bynes family may want to quickly follow suit.
RadarOnline contacted Sam, who denied buying the plane ticket. When pressed about his friendship with Amanda, he said, “I have to call you back” and hung up abruptly.
TMZ has an inside source who indicates Amanda is suffering from a severe mental illness “with schizophrenic tendencies.” The patient is said to be aware “there’s a good Amanda and a bad Amanda.” Tests for drugs were reportedly negative except for evidence of marijuana use.
Tomorrow’s hearing is expected to be closed to the public.
