Former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro Julianne Hough will sit in for head judge Len Goodman Monday night while he participates in Britain’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
She won the mirror ball trophy twice during her five seasons on the popular ABC dance competition. Hough headed to Nashville in 2009 to pursue a singing career before taking a leap to the big screen in ‘Burlesque,’ ‘Footloose,’ ‘Rock of Ages,’ ‘Safe Haven,’ and ‘Paradise.’
The pro-turned-actress will judge ten dances tonight, including the Tango by her pro brother Derek Hough and his celebrity partner Amber Riley of ‘Glee’ fame.
Opinions were mixed on whether she should be allowed to judge a close family member. Pro Karina Smirnoff acknowledged, “In competitive ballroom dancing, it’s not allowed but this is a TV show and I’m sure she’ll be a fair judge.”
Pro Peta Murgatroyd was optimistic, “I actually think that Julianne is going to tougher on her brother.”
Veteran dance pro Tony Dovolani expressed a less positive opinion, “I’m going to miss Len. This is supposed to be a ballroom show. Len represents ballroom.”
Julianne gushed, “I’m so excited because I know what it feels like to be on the floor.”
