Lady Gaga covers the December 2013 issue of U. K. magazine Attitude and reveals that she was smoking 15 joints a day to deal with the pain caused by a labral tear in her right hip that occurred during a show in February.

The singer confessed, “It was a habit that escalated when the pain got so bad with the hip. I was just numbing, numbing, numbing myself then sleeping it off, then getting on stage, killing it in pain, then getting off and smoking, smoking, smoking, not knowing what the pain was.”

Her life soon became a vicious cycle of sleeping, singing and smoking until out of desperation she turned to a friend who helped her to get control of the addiction.

Performance artist Marina Abramovic offered her some intense rehab, “OK, you’re coming to my house–no television, no computer, no marijuana, no nothing, no food. For three days, art only. You eat only art.”

Marina also blindfolded the 27-year-old singer and left her in the woods for three hours to help her find her “way home.”

Gaga acknowledges, “Now I smoke a little bit at night just, you know, for fun. But not to cope–that’s the difference. I’m the soberest I’ve ever been in the past five years.”
