Janice Min‘s contract with Us Weekly is up in just 12 weeks and still no paperwork has been signed to either keep or kick her.
Then Jann Wenner went and flew in Britian-based Now editor Jane Ennis to talk “about a new magazine that we’re thinking about launching,” says general manager Kent Brownridge, trying to shun any reports Ennis might replace Min at their flagship gossip glossy.
But Min has reportedly rejected Wenner’s initial renewal offer, looking instead for a seven-figure sum a la her mentor, Bonnie Fuller. And with Us Weekly‘s continual staffing departures (special projects editor Sarah Piper and staffer Nicola McCarthy both left for the U.K.), we’re told Wenner is running out of energy in trying to keep Min.
He’s looking at two opposing options: keep Min and her staff, or poach a Brit (i.e. Ennis) and revamp the masthead for a fresher attempt at circulation boosts.
