As you’ve probably heard by now, the 2015 VMAs were packed to the rafters with controversial moments.

Everything from the feud between Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus to Rebel Wilson’s police brutality joke is being hotly debated on social media today, and the debates don’t end there.

One contentious moment took place before the show even began, when Amber Rose and Blac Chyna showed up on the red carpet in matching outfits emblazoned with anti-female epithets:

Speaking with MTV, Amber explained the outfits, saying, "We wanted to paint a picture of what everyone always says about us… They call us sluts and whores all the time, and we just embrace it."

The outfits also featured the words "gold digger," which may have been a subtle shot at last night’s Video Vanguard recipient, Kanye West.

"Gold Digger," of course, was the name of Kanye’s first single, and the rapper recently engaged in the sort of slut-shaming that Amber is bringing attention to when he said in an interview that he needed "30 showers" after dating Rose.

Of course, there are those who believe that Amber and Blac are more concerned with hyping their upcoming MTV reality show than they are with women’s issues, but who knows?

At the end of the day, the BFF models succeeded in calling attention to both themselves and an issue that they feel strongly about. Sounds like a win-win to us.
