Madonna may be pushing 60, but the pop icon still knows how to shock.
Two weeks ago Madonna called kale “gay,” launching one of the stranger scandals in recent memory, and last night it was the Material Girl’s lack of material that made her the center of attention.
Before last night’s 2014 MET Gala, Madge posted a photo of herself (or a model with whom she feels very comfortable) wearing nothing but a few mummy-like bandages, with her breasts almost exposed and Photoshopped over by the word, “Censored.”
The caption read, “What I wanted to wear to Met Ball but Anna said not this year. So I’m gonna work on music instead? #artforfreedom”
Many have suggested (and probably hoped) that Madonna was only joking and intended to poke fun at Vogue editor Anna Wintour’s notoriously strict guidelines for the Gala.
We certainly hope that Madonna’s bare nipples were some sort of high-minded satire, but given her string of bizarre behavior over the past few months (and years, and decades), we wouldn’t be shocked to learn that’s how Her Madgesty intended to rock the red carpet.
Sadly, it would be far from the weirdest thing anyone’s worn to past MET Galas.
