It is no longer complicated for Avril Lavigne. It’s sad and it’s simple:
The singer has announced that she and husband Chad Kroeger are going their separate ways.
"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today," the artist wrote on Instagram, adding:
"Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we’ve created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other.
"To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support."
Rumors of a rift in their relationship first circulated back in April, as we directly asked whether Lavigne and Kroeger were over.
The musicians were married in South of France on July 1, 2013 after the Nickelback frontman proposed to Lavigne a year before with a huge 14-karat diamond ring.
Last year, Kroeger proceeded to surprise Lavinge her with a 17-carat diamond ring for their first anniversary.
But not even the most massive of diamonds could apparently make up for the problems at the heart of this union.
It’s a shame… but we can’t say it’s altogether surprising. Not in this, the Summer of Major Marital Hollywood Splits.
