Yesterday, former MLB pitcher and current ESPN analyst Curt Schilling was suspended by the network in response to a controversial tweet comparing Muslims to Nazis.
Schilling deleted the tweet and issued an apology acknowledging that his comments were inappropriate and needlessly inflammatory.
Regardless of their personal politics, most fans of the network seemed to agree that Schilling had crossed a line and that the relatively minor punishment doled out by the network fit the crime, as the 48-year-old fan favorite seemed genuinely contrite.
So the matter was settled, and all parties involved were ready to move on. Then Sarah Palin decided to offer her two cents.
"ESPN - what happened to you? Your intolerant PC police are running amok and making a joke out of you!" Palin wrote on her Facebook page today.
She goes on to accuse the network's "wussified leaders" of making the world safer for ISIS:
"By denying the accuracy of Schilling’s tweet, ESPN shows its weakness as it buys into the propaganda of ISIS and other terror organizations, helping mislead the public about the very real threat of terrorism.
"It shows once again that ESPN would rather concentrate on liberal global politics instead of report well on our beloved sports."
Yeah, shut up and make with the sports, you wussies! This is an exciting moment as it might be the most Sarah Palin statement that Sarah Palin has ever made.
The whole thing is an entertaining read, as she gets into a Batman vs. Superman "who would win in a fight?"-style analysis of Hitler and ISIS, and alleges that ESPN once aired a segment in which Mike Tyson described what his next rape would look like. Seriously.
The gist of Sarah's argument is that ESPN should know its role and shut its mouth, as though they broke away from Yanks-Red Sox coverage to share some highlights from a Bernie Sanders rally.
Look, one of the network's employees made a statement that offended millions of its viewers, and execs responded with disciplinary action.
A grown man doesn't get to cover the Little League world series, and Sarah Palin uses that as a jumping-off point for a rant about how ISIS is gonna be hiding under your bed by next week.
Like we said, she may have achieved maximum Sarah Palin.
