Earlier today, Nicki Minaj complained about her lack of VMA nominations on Twitter and suggested that she was unfairly shut out of two categories due to racial discrimination.
In a series of angry tweets, the rapper made vague references "other girls" receiving preferential treatment and stated that her belief that the nomination process revealed MTV's favoritisim for "different" kinds of artists.
"If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year," Minaj tweeted at one point.
Taylor Swift (who received the most nominations, along with Beyonce and Ed Sheeran) apparently interpreted that remark as a personal attack, and the singer made her feelings known on social media:
"@NickiMinaj I've done nothing but love & support you," Taylor tweeted in reply "It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot."
"Huh? U must not be reading my tweets," Nicki responded. "Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.
"I'm still confused as to why u just tweeted me when I made it abundantly clear...They're not missing the point, they're just attempting to overshadow the point. Oldest trick in the book."
Nicki then retweeted several fan comments criticizing Swift.
Perhaps sensing that she was in over her head, Taylor effectively squashed the beef, but never anything in the way of an explanation or apology:
"If I win please come up with me," Swift tweeted to Nicki moments ago. "You're invited to any stage I'm ever on."
Okay, so thus far it's the most cordial feud ever, but stay tuned. Both of these ladies have been known to write a mean diss track, and there could be some bad blood brewing.
