The behind the scenes drama involving the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo cast just keeps getting weirder and more scandalous by the day. The latest?
June Shannon has been prosecuted for unpaid child support.
Mama June reportedly stiffed the woman who’d taken care of her daughter after she was molested by June’s boyfriend. At least that’s what Georgia prosecutors think.
They’re convinced enough to file a criminal case against her.
June’s mother, Sandra Hale, became the guardian of Anna Shannon, a.k.a. Chickadee in 2003, a year after she was sexually abused by June’s lover.
Mark McDaniel forced Anna, then 8, to give him oral sex.
McDaniel was sent away to prison for a decade, and a guardianship was created, in June was required to pay her mom $100 a month in child support.
A modest, easily produced sum, or so you might think.
Fast forward to 2009, though, and the Henry County D.A. filed criminal contempt charges, claiming June was way behind on her agreed upon payments.
By that point, Shannon had fallen $4,144.62 behind.
June, who reportedly attempted suicide while pregnant with Honey Boo Boo, was deemed to be behind “due to willful and continuous refusal to comply.”
The D.A. threatened her with jail if she didn’t pay.
While nothing surprises us anymore regarding this woman, the fact that she couldn’t even cough up $100 a month after what McDaniel did is pretty bad.
Three months later, the contempt charge was dismissed, presumably because June belatedly paid. Fast forward to 2014, and she has a lot bigger problems.
A LOT bigger problems.
