Days ahead of The Walking Dead Season 5 premiere, AMC has gone ahead and stated the obvious:

The highest-rated show on television will return for Season 6!

AMC President Charlie Collier made the announcement this morning via press release, referencing this Sunday’s season premiere and writing:

“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series.”

 

Collier went on to show his appreciation for the series producers, concluding:

“Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life.  There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

Gimple will return as showrunner and executive producer for Season 6, the network also confirmed.

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 1 airs at 9/8c on AMC this Sunday, October 12. It will pick up with Rick and company in serious trouble at Terminus.
