Charlie Hunnam has been cast as the lead in Fifty Shades of Grey.

But Bret Easton Ellis claims the Sons of Anarchy star was NOT the first choice of author E.L. James, who supposedly opened up to Ellis at a party this summer.

“E.L. James and I were at Rob Pattinson’s house when she admitted that Rob was first choice for Christian,” Ellis Tweeted soon after the major casting news broke yesterday.

The controversial Ellis – who slammed Kelly Marcel as screenwriter of Fifty Shades of Grey – also shot down a couple other contenders who had been rumored for the part of this S&S fiend:

“Ian Somerhalder never in running,” he wrote. “Matt Bomer was never up for the role either.”

Was the part ever offered to Pattinson? It’s unclear. Would he have taken it? We doubt it, no matter how sexy the star is in this Dior Homme ad.

But would you have wanted to see Robert Pattinson as Christian Grey?
