After the first official Saving Mr. Banks image was released of Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and Emma Thompson as P.L. Travers, we now have the Saving Mr. Banks trailer.

Saving Mr. Banks Trailer

Love this trailer. Love it. Tom Hanks looks spectacular as Walt Disney and I daresay there isn’t much that Emma Thompson doesn’t excel in.

Add in B.J. Novak and Jason Schwartzman as the Sherman brothers who took on the daunting task of taking a tale that is not very close to a ‘spoonful of sugar’ and making it into the musical classic we all know and love today, and just from this small look it appears as if nothing can go wrong.

I do hope it isn’t a case of "great trailer but crappy movie" because that would be disheartening.

Also it will be interesting to see how the film deals with the reaction of P.L. Travers to the finished Mary Poppins. It’s been reported through the years that she not only disliked the film but rather hated it. With the fiery passion of a thousand suns, hated it.

In addition I look forward to seeing Disney the company take on Disney the man. How easy and tempting it would be to put him on a pedestal.

However, if they end up portraying him as just another man who happened to head up this huge empire, I think they would be doing themselves a great service.

Saving Mr. Banks is set to premiere on December 13th, right in time for an Oscar hunt. Will Tom Hanks be back on stage? Perhaps Emma Thompson?

We’ll just have to wait and see.
