Typically a celebratory occasion, the Billboard Latin Music Awards took on a somber tone last night, honoring the life and tragic death of Jenni Rivera.
The singer died in a December plane crash.
Posthumously, however, Rivera took home six trophies at the ceremony, including Regional Mexican Album of the Year (for “La Gran Señora”) and Artist of the Year.
“You are my diva,” Rivera’s father, Pedro Rivera, said in accepting the awards.
“May God bless you, my daughter.”
The awards also paid tribute to Rivera via a montage of clips from her live performances and her reality-TV show, I Love Jenni.
Her brother Juan Rivera even sang “No Llega el Olvido,” accompanied by a mariachi band.
Don Omar, meanwhile, led the field with 18 nominations and an incredible 10 wins.
