Fiona Apple has canceled the South American leg of her current tour, and not because of a hashish arrest. She wants to be with her dying dog in the U.S.
In a touching, four-page handwritten letter, the 35-year-old speaks warmly, candidly and heartbreakingly about her Pit Bull Janet, 14, and her chest tumor.
“Janet has been the most consistent relationship of my adult life, and that is just a fact,” she writes about Janet, who was rescued after being abused by dogfighters.
Fiona says her dog “was under the piano when I wrote songs” and is “my best friend, mother, daughter, benefactor, and the one who taught me what love is.”
“I can’t come to South America. Not now. I am asking for your blessing.”
Apple recently wrapped up the North American leg of her tour and was set to kick off her South American dates on November 27 in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
For now, that’s on old. We wish her the best in this difficult time.
