Musicians are forever pushing the envelope, honing their crafts, stretching their limits.

Or they're just trying to get as many #1 hits as possible in order to sell more records and make more money to buy big cribs with multi-car garages and basketball courts in the basement.

To that end, artists frequently collaborate with other artists to experiment with style and sound. Sometimes they cross the genre lines and what results is... unexpected.

Nearly an entire season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was dedicated to Kandi Burruss' quest for songwriting credits in Country music and she teamed up with Sara Evans to make it happen.

Some of these collaborations are wildly more successful than others, but when rap meets country or when pop meets metal, it feels weird. So weird it's good.

Here are 11 weird musical collaborations that totally work. Get ready to groove!

Katy Perry and Juicy J - Dark Horse
Academy Award winner Juicy J's inclusion on Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" made the song sure to be a hit instead of a, well, dark horse.

Between Channing Tatum's admission of alcoholism and a never-ending stream of glassy-eyed Lindsay Lohan party photos emerging from the actress' time in London, we thought it would be a good time to run down a list of celebs who have struggled with excessive drinking.

Some of the stars on this list consider themselves alcoholics, but have sobered up and now speak openly about their years of heavy boozing as a cautionary tale.

Others are still hitting the bottle and thus tend to be more secretive about their imbibing ... well except LiLo. Who else falls into each category? Let's take a look.

Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato held little back at the 2012 People's Choice Awards. Including her cleavage. Comment on her dress now.

Hollywood and hooch have a long history together, dating back to Humphrey Bogart sipping real bourbon while shooting barroom scenes, reportedly never seeming to mind if he had to do 15 takes.

But as times have changed, so have American attitudes toward excessive drinking.

We now know that for every amusing anecdote about a sloshed celeb stumbling down the red carpet, there's a far more grim story such as Derek Whibley's near-death experience.

The legendary Elton John has received top-billing for the 2014 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, often referred to simply as Bonnaroo, this summer.

Other headliners at the four-day event in Manchester, Tenn.: Kanye West, Jack White, Lionel Ritchie, Vampire Weekend, the Avette Brothers and Phoenix.

We imagine not even a man with the ego the size of Mr. Kim Kardashian can complain about Sir Elton John's name appearing first on the Bonnaroo bill.

Sir Elton John will headline Bonnaroo 2014.

Set for the weekend of June 12-15, the festival features a cross-section of artists amid multiple genres (if the headliners alone didn't make that clear).

There is also a mini-craft beer festival complete with beer classes, and a 5K race. Tickets go on sale February 22 at noon EST and start at $249.50.

As for another annual, acclaimed multi-day music event, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (often just called Coachella) is sold out already.

A reunited OutKast will anchor Coachella 2014, set for the weekends of April 11-13 and April 18-20 on a polo field in the desert city of Indio, Calif.

The complete Bonnaroo 2014 lineup appears after the jump:

Someday, the following list will not be necessary.

Someday, celebrities will not need to make any sort of official announcement regarding their sexuality because, quite simply, no one will care and society will be fully accepting of all orientations.

But that day hasn't arrived yet, for reasons explained so eloquently by Ellen Page when she came out as a lesbian on Friday:

Perhaps these stars can make a difference. Maybe they can positively influence others struggling with their sexual identity, using their public platform to push for tolerance.

So, with all that in mind, we join many in Hollywood in saluting Page and other famous folks who are very out and awfully proud:

Ellen Page
Ellen Page made a major announcement in early 2014: She's gay. We applaud her for it.

It hasn't exactly received the same coverage as Jamie Dornan landing the role of Christian Grey, but Tom Hardy will portray Elton John in an upcoming biopic about the legendary artist.

The Wrap confirmed this casting news late yesterday, reporting that Hardy will anchor Rocktman, a film that will go into production about a year from now and which will be directed by Michael Gracey.

Rocketman will chronicle the entire life of John, from his early days as a child prodigy to his current role as a musical icon.

John is expected to re-record many of his original hits to parallel the emotional beats of the movie.

Elton John would like to clarify his opinion on Miley Cyrus.

A few days after saying the singer is a "meltdown waiting to happen," John appeared on Ellen yesterday and actually defended the 20-year old. He spoke very highly of her.

"'Lt me tell you what worked at the VMAs," the veteran artist said of Miley's infamous performance. "The whole purpose of VMAs - when you got all these big artists competing against each other for attention - is to flatten the opposition. She flattened the opposition."

John went on to praise Miley's charity work - while admitting he isn't a fan of her prominent tongue - and added that she's clearly doing something right because "nobody talked about anybody else except Miley. She has two records in the top ten, the number one single."

And the "Candle in the Wind" crooner also had very positive things to say about Miley's ex, Liam Hemsworth. At least on the physical appearance front.

"I'll take her old boyfriend," the married gay man joked. "As the French say, 'A bit on the side.' He's gorgeous."

To coincide with the Emmy-winning HBO film Behind the Candelabra, Sir Elton John paid tribute to the late Liberace at the 2013 Emmy Awards last night.

Stars Matt Damon and Michael Douglas introduced the singer, who took the stage to perform "Home Again," a song he said reminded him of Liberace.

John said Liberace had always enjoyed being at home. Take a look:

Elton John talked about his influence and joked about not realizing Liberace was gay, referring to him by his nickname "Lee" before performing "Home Again."

It was the first time he had performed at the Emmy Awards. "Home Again" will appear on John's upcoming album, The Diving Board, due out Tuesday.

What did you think about Elton John's Liberace tribute?

Miley Cyrus may be worried about Liam Hemsworth cheating on her, but Elton John is worried about something even more pressing:

This singer's life.

Talking to The Australian about this Twerking Wrecking Ball rider, the legendary artist offered a few words of warning for Cyrus:

"I see a meltdown waiting to happen,And she's so young! But she's got two records in the top 20, so who is going to stop her?"

  • Miley Cyrus Exits London Hotel

Certainly not Miley's father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who reacted to his daughter's controversial Wrecking Ball video by simply gushing over her "God given talent."

John's company Rocket Pictures is currently working on a movie about the artist's life called Rocketman.

But here's the best part: Tom Hardy is the frontrunner to star.
