A false tweet from the Associated Press indicated that the White House was the victim of two explosions this morning and that the President was injured.

This is not the case at all. President Barack Obama is fine.

Moreover, the AP confirms its Twitter feed was hacked.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney held a press conference shortly following the Twitter post, saying without a doubt that “the President is fine.”

An Associated Press spokesman told Reuters later Tuesday that an AP Twitter message reporting two explosions in the White House was “bogus.”

Especially after the Boston Marathon bombings, this was sadly not that difficult to believe for a split second, even with online hoaxes so rampant.

On Wall Street, stocks suddenly took a sharp plunge Tuesday, with the Dow briefly turning negative, but quickly rebounded when the rumor was debunked.
