Jordin Sparks covers the latest issue of Women’s Running, a feat she never imagined she’d accomplish just a few years ago.

“I was carrying a 5-year-old,” the former American Idol winner tells Life & Style of her past figure. “Fall 2010 through March, that’s kind of when I lost the first 30 pounds. By March of last year, I lost 50. And then I maintained it for the rest of the year.”

How did she do it? Sparks may have focused on more healthy recipes in the kitchen, but it was the work done outside the home that really paid off.

“I was in the gym all day long,” Sparks says. “When I got up I would hike, then I would go to the trainer. At night, I would go to my Latin dance fitness class. I really kicked it into high gear for this [cover].”

How how does Jason Derulo’s better half feel about the results?

“I would’ve never thought two years ago that I would be doing running magazines and fitness magazines. It’s really cool,” says Jordin. “The fact that I can look back on the past two-and-a-half years of my life and say, ‘I did that’  – it’s a really good feeling to feel.”
