Sarah and Bristol Palin to Family Guy: You Suck!

by at . Comments

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane now has something in common with Levi Johnston: both have been bitch slapped by the Palins.

On Sunday night, Fox aired an episode of this popular sitcom that featured a girl with Down Syndrome, who said at one point: "My mom’s the former governor of Alaska."

For a series known for crude and offensive humor, not much was actually made about the girl's state.

Stewie uttered the occasional rude line, but Stewie always utters the occasional rude line. It almost seemed as though MacFarlane inserted the Palin reference in there just to court controversy - and, of course, the self-absorbed "politician" snatched the bait.

Palin took to Facebook and said the joke was a “kick in the gut” because she it “mocked” her son, Trig, who has Down Syndrome. She then turned it over to her daughter because it's always healthy for an 18-year old to be in the center of a scandal.

Palin vs. Stewie

Bristol wrote:

When you’re the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin. My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you’ll ever meet.

Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them? As a culture, shouldn’t we be more compassionate to innocent people – especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn’t we be willing to say that some things just are not funny?

Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed.

All they proved is that they’re heartless jerks.

THG's reaction to this mess:

  • There's absolutely no way Bristol Palin wrote that;
  • It's wrong to make fun of someone with Down Syndrome;
  • The show is an equal opportunity offender. Family Guy quotes take swipes at every race, religion and disability. Do they sometimes cross the line? Yes. We were appalled that the sitcom made multiples jokes about rape two weeks ago. But it's been on the air for eight seasons and there's clearly a market for its niche.
  • Palin had no problem when Rush Limbaugh used the word "retard" multiple times last month because she deemed his rant against Democrats to be "satire." And Family Guy would be what, Sarah, Pulitzer Prize-worthy drama?
  • If Palin were truly interested in anything but getting her name in the newspaper, she'd ignore this type of baiting. Her desperate need for PR is the only reason Levi Johnston is still around. If she'd ignored his taunts months ago, the world would have forgotten about him by now.
  • No respectable political figure issues statements from her Facebook account.
  • Examples such as this prove why Palin is closer to Tila Tequila than Hilary Clinton.

You've heard from us. Now, we wanna hear from you: Whose side are you on in this feud?

I second that thoiwut argument. Supernatural is the sole TV show I have on dvd. Season 3 is good but season 4 is too dark for me. Then comes season 5, I have to say I like' Psych's good but I'm rooting for the Winchesters and their ass kicking angel *winks*

Kick in the gut? I'd like to kick $arah in the ass...get OFF the stage, you 2 stepping vaudeville act.

Nobody really cares what this idiot and her family think, do they?

You can't laugh at something and then say that it's not funny because although it is "politically incorrect" it is still funny. Every man is created equal and no man is off limits from being made fun of.

Humor is humor. It's just a joke for crying out loud. We should be able to joke about everything, just for the sake of it. We're humans, we can't all have the same opinions, and we can't all have the same humor - so it's absolutely dumb to start saying that making fun of this and that is 'a bad' thing to do. It's legal, many other people think it's fun - if u don't like it, turn the channel, nobody forces you to watch it. It's dumb to get offended at something that's not directed at you. If somebody came up to your face and called you a retard, then fair enough. If you're blond, and some dude on tv says all blonds are dumb as shit, then get over it. -_-'

Both Palin and Family Guy are equally representative of the cultural and intellectual decline of America. You got Palin who couldn't find Russia on a map, exploits her family, and generally is one of many tools who are shattering what was once known as the republician party (I am not even Republician!). Then you have Family Guy; a show that relies on a paint-by-numbers approach to comedy, cheap animation, and a general lack of actual talent in both writing and imagination. MacFarline should be pinching himself on the money he is making...

There is a difference between calling your friend a retard...and calling a person with down syndrome a retard

@for_real_tho: You seem to have missed the entire point of my post. I said it WAS personal, 100% personal against Palin. I said the show seemingly went out of its way to push her buttons and bait a hook... which she then fell for because she is the ultimate attention whore.
It was akin to a second grader picking a fight - and Seth MacFarlane wouldn't deny for a second that he's pens outlandish, immature humor just for attention's sake b/c he's at least honest about who he is - and the teacher then getting down to that second grader's level and responding.
The mature response of an actual adult that wanted to shield her kids and set an example? Ignore the idiot in the sandbox. But the next time Palin ignores any opportunity to make news will the the first.

one more thing, if the Palin's can't stand the heat, they need to
get out of the kitchen

I love Family Guy and I also am a fan of Sarah Palin. FG has mocked everything and I think that Sarah Palin shouldn't be off limits. However, her son with down syndrome or any child like that should not be mocked. It is rude and should be treated respectfully.
