As expected, Donald Trump came out swinging in the first Republican primary debate on Thursday night.

The controversial real estate mogul began by announcing that he plans to run as an independent if he doesn’t receive his party’s nomination.

Just minutes later, he made an even more shocking declaration when asked about the many misogynistic remarks he’s made in the past.

When moderator Megyn Kelly asked Trump about his long history of tearing down his female critics with vile insults, Trump made an unexpected reference to his long-standing feud with Rosie O’Donnell.

To the surprise of many, Trump refused to apologize for calling women "fat pigs" and "disgusting animals" and used the opportunity to take a jab at O’Donnell.

Watch the shocking moment in the video above, and marvel at the fact that this man is leading the Republican pack in the polls.
