Facing Awkwardness, Beauty At The Beauty Confidential Book Party
No Situation is too uncomfortable for free white wine

Our night at the Beauty Confidential book party started out with us falling flat on our face.

After spotting our co-editor’s boyfriend in front of the building, we went over to say hello, but before we could a doorstop came in our way. We smacked the ground hard, and our hand was still stinging when we shook his hand.

The rest of the night did not improve from there.

Who would have guessed that saying not-so nice things about a book would create such awkwardness at the ensuing book party? [Co-Editor: Um, everyone?] Everyone looked at us like we were wearing pastel eyeshadow in the winter and about ten people made us promise not to be mean.

But actually the guest of honor, Nadine Haobsh, was quite charming. Few other adults can pull off pink the way she does. Meanwhile, the Tribeca loft where the party was held gave us serious real estate envy. (Full disclosure: Any apartment above 60 degrees would insight some bitterness since we don’t have heat right now.) The scene was typical book party fare: white wine, chopped vegetables and friends from Ivy League colleges gossiping about recent engagements.

Not surprisingly, most of the women present seemed to have taken Nadine’s advice and were all expertly made up. The few men there fell into two categories: boyfriends or bloggers. Ron Hogan of Galleycat claimed his wife loved the book and a very excited Michael Malice, creater of Overheard in College, has been using the beauty advice himself.

The best beauty tip we got all night? Check out the gift bag. We ended up tripling our eye shadow collection. Thanks, Nadine!

I think you meant “incite” some bitterness? Although insighting some bitterness has a certain je ne sais quois interest.
