Exclusive! NYT Launches Political Blog ‘Empire Zone’

We’re here late Monday night with exclusive news that tomorrow the New York Times will be launching Empire Zone, West 43rd’s long-awaited political blog that joins such notable Times scribblings as The Pour, Dealbook, and Carpetbagger.

Thus far it’s only metro political reporter Patrick Healy‘s byline we see, but the blog is said to be a notepad for the entire Times political staff. We also hear a few weeks ago, it was also Healy who was shipped upstate to Albany to film a video intro snippet. That footage isn’t yet online, but we’re sure parading in front of the capitol building will make a nice YouTube clip to pass around.

By the time the formal announcement comes tomorrow (read: Bill Keller‘s memo), we’re fully expecting Ben Smith to have commented “FIRST!” before anyone else. Followed, of course, by Bill Weld demanding a correction.

Welcome to The Empire Zone [Empire Zone]
