Sigourney Weaver has been cast in her first ever television drama series. The USA Network confirms that they have ordered six episodes of Political Animals.
The actress has been cast as a divorced former First Lady who becomes Secretary of State. She finds herself thown into the job after losing the presidential nomination — shades of Hilary Clinton.
Lonestar actor James Wolk will play Weaver’s son, an amibitious politico who serves as her chief of staff. Parenthood actress Brittany Ishibashi will portray his fiancee.
Weaver will be able to draw from the critically acclaimed 1993 film Dave, where she played the First Lady in a loveless marriage with President Mitchell. He suffered a stroke and his White House henchmen brought in a lookalike, Kevin Kline, to fool the American public. She ended up falling in love with her phony husband.
