Sarah Jessica Parker and her cohorts Anna Wintour and Olivia Wilde played host at a $40,000 a head fundraiser last night for Barack Obama.
The president and first lady Michelle Obama made a rare dual appearance at the fashionable Manhattan home of Parker and her Broadway actor husband Matthew Broderick. The dinner party, attended by 50 deep-pocketed contributors, raised $2 million.
The streets were cordoned off early Thursday morning and white tents erected to shield arriving guests. The ‘Jon Daily Show’ sent an actress and cameraman to film in front of the residence. Comedian Samantha Bee was dressed as a SJP lookalike for the spoof.
Among those writing checks for a chance to hobnob with POTUS were Beyonce’s sister Solonge Knowles, model Chanel, Georgina Chapman, Meryl Streep, Michael Kors, Andy Cohen and Aretha Franklin.
The editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour, served as moderator for a private Q & A session between Obama and the guests. Afterward the entire group moved on to a second star-studded event at the 5-star Plaza Hotel.
That shindig was attended by 250 guests who added $2.5 millions to the Obama war chest. Singing diva Mariah Carey performed Hero, We Belong Together and a song she wrote just for the occasion, Bring It On Home.
The president kicked off his whirlwind visit with a tour of One World Trade Center tower. Tagging along were New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Obama signed a steel beam that will be laid on the top floor of the tower with this sentiment, “We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger!”
